Hundreds of employers to participate in Career Showcase

January 17, 2014

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — More than 250 employers will be looking to recruit University of Florida students and alumni during the 2014 Career Showcase Jan. 21-22 in the O’Connell Center.

The showcase, hosted by UF’s Career Resource Center, offers students the chance to meet potential employers face-to-face and find jobs and internship opportunities. The showcase runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. A new addition to the event will be a LinkedIn photo area from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. to provide professional headshots for profiles on the social networking site.

On Tuesday, employers will be seeking students from non-technical fields like political science, communications, humanities and accounting. Employers on Wednesday will meet with students from technical backgrounds, such as engineering, physics and mathematics.

Last spring, Career Showcase set and broke a record with more than 8,000 participants.

Students attending the event must bring their Gator 1 cards and are strongly encouraged to bring several copies of their resume. The showcase is open to only UF students and alumni.

A list of participating companies is posted in Gator CareerLink, which can be accessed through the CRC’s website www.crc.ufl.edu. Twenty-nine of the employers are new, including Capgemini and CURTCO Media Group. Impact on parking

The top two levels of the O’Connell Center parking garage will be reserved all day for the Career Showcase on Jan. 21-22, and the top level and ramp will be reserved on Jan. 23. In addition, on Jan. 21-22, section B5 of the O’Connell parking lot (located in the NW corner) and the row of spaces between the garage and O’Connell Center will also be reserved.

Decal holders who normally park in these areas should be aware of this impact and may need to seek alternate parking during this period. Additional shared Red/Green parking has been created on the top level of Garage 5 (located at the Gale Lemerand Drive and Museum Road intersection) to help alleviate event parking issues.
