CITRUS COUNT — Citrus crop-yield estimates may be more accurate, thus ensuring higher productivity and more revenue, if an algorithm proves as successful as it did in a recent University of Florida study.

MEDICAID REFORM (rescheduled from this week) — Health care plans in the Florida Medicaid Reform Pilot project have done a better job of controlling costs compared with Florida’s traditional Medicaid program, according to a new University of Florida study.

Thursday, Jan. 30

THE NOSE KNOWS (rescheduled from this week) – UF researchers have shown that certain nasal neurons actually help animals determine the location of a scent. Their findings may pave the way for electronic “noses” that can detect land mines and other things.

CANKER GENE — Four researchers from the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida are a step closer to finding a possible cure for citrus canker after identifying a gene that makes citrus trees susceptible to the bacterial pathogen.
