UF to offer doctoral program in business administration
February 3, 2014
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Hough Graduate School of Business at the Warrington College of Business Administration is launching a Doctor of Business Administration program in August.
The DBA is a professional doctorate that stresses the application of theory to practical business issues. The program’s objective is to develop proficiency in applied research by enhancing methodological and analytical skills. While doctorates in business are discipline-based, the DBA will provide students a broad-spectrum understanding of business topics including accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing, strategy and other fields. Graduates will be prepared for positions in higher education, consulting or industry.
The DBA program is designed for top business professionals eager to enhance their research skills.
“The DBA program is designed for business professionals to acquire research skills they can use in their current employment or enter an academic career,” said John Kraft, dean of the Warrington College of Business Administration. “This is a growing area of demand. I think there is a need for this long-term, particularly when you look at the growth of business schools and the fact that the demand for Ph.D.s in business exceeds the available supply of academically qualified candidates.”
Qualified applicants must possess a master’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or its international equivalent. The DBA program consists of 60 credit hours and takes approximately three years to complete. It is a professional, non-resident program with limited visits to campus allowing participants maximum flexibility to complete their studies without having to sacrifice time away from their family and careers. Participants will need to make only one or two trips to campus per term over the course of the program.
The Hough Graduate School of Business is a global leader in offering hybrid programs that combine classroom and distance learning. The Economist named the School’s Internet MBA program one of the world’s two best in its “Which MBA?” Distance-Learning Special 2010 issue and ranked Hough’s Executive MBA program No. 14 in the world in its 2013 “Which MBA?” Executive MBA rankings.
“We have the tools including a highly-regarded research faculty needed to create an exceptionally innovative approach to doctoral education,” Kraft said.
