GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The following events are scheduled in the near future at or near the University of Florida:
Engineering students teach Baby Gators
UF’s American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Engineering Ambassadors have partnered with Baby Gator administrators to present the Baby Gators with a fun and educational day of science and engineering from 10 a.m. to noon April 22 at the Baby Gator Lake Alice campus. The children will participate in hands-on activities, play with slime and watch model rocket launches and other experiments. They will learn about the science behind the experiments.

STEAM club promotes clean water
The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Academy club will host a Water Challenge event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22 at the Plaza of the Americas. Participants can make paper jewelry beads for “Students Rebuild,” an organization that will provide clean water for more than 16,000 people in Tanzania based on the number of beads received.

Students’ robots to be demonstrated
Robot Demo Day will take place from 12:30 to about 3:30 p.m. April 23 in the New Engineering Building Harris Rotunda. Most of the robots have been designed and built by undergraduate and graduate students for the Intelligent Machine Design Laboratory course. There will be live demonstrations of more than a dozen robots built by students. The event will also showcase the Machine Intelligence Laboratory. Rainworks Challenge winners announced
The Campus Rainworks Challenge, a national competition for undergraduate and graduate students held by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will conclude with the announcement of this year’s challenge winners at 9:30 a.m. April 24 on the lawn at the architecture building. This year’s speakers will include Nancy Stoner, EPA acting assistant administrator for water, and Christopher Silver, dean of the College of Design, Construction and Planning.

Business plan competition offers $25K prize
The Warrington College of Business Administration’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will host the inaugural Gator Business Plan Competition at 1:30 April 24-25 in Emerson Alumni Hall. The 16 semifinalists will be divided evenly into four groups and take part in an oral presentation and question-and-answer session with the judges. The winners of each group Thursday advance to the final round Friday. The students from business, engineering and other fields will compete for the first-place prize of $25,000. Camp weighs humanities in digital age
The UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere and Smathers Library are hosting The Humanities and Technology Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 24 and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 25 in Smathers Library East. THAT Camp is a free nonconference where researchers, teachers, students, developers, librarians, museum professionals and others can discuss digital projects and brainstorm initiatives to support cultural work in the digital age.
