WORLD CUP BENEFITS – Once a major sporting event like the World Cup or Olympic Games finishes, residents of the host countries see psychic and social effects. A study led by UF researchers found that the 2010 World Cup in South Africa increased the ‘feel-good factor,’ but its long-term improvements to the social fabric were negligible eight months afterward.
Wednesday, July 2
TROPICAL FOREST USES – In a new paper, UF researchers encourage people near tropical forests to consider several factors – including financial profits, biodiversity and land use by residents – before they make decisions about forest access and use. This calls into question the definition of “forest.”
