GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The following events are scheduled in the near future at the University of Florida:
Panel discussion on juvenile justice reform
Two national juvenile justice experts will participate in a panel discussion, “Kids Not Inmates: Reforming Juvenile Justice,” at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 in UF Law’s Chesterfield Smith Memorial Classroom, HOL 180. Guest panelists are Tim Decker, director of the Missouri Children’s Division of the Department of Social Services and author of the “Missouri Model” of juvenile justice reform, and Christina Daly, interim secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. The discussion is sponsored by the UF Law Center on Children and Families and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service.

Research Computing Day to focus on analytics
The Fall 2014 Research Computing Day will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 23 in Smathers Library, Room 100. This year’s event will focus on using IBM PureData Analytics. UF recently received a donation from IBM of a PureData Analytics, or PDA, system. The system, installed in the East Campus Data Center this summer, is now live. Gator Plunge set for Sept. 27
The Center for Leadership and Service will host Gator Plunge at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Gator Plunge is a single-day service project where volunteers branch out to various areas of Gainesville. Service projects include working with animals, art and culture, homelessness and housing, youth development, elder care, environmental issues and more. Charlie Crist’s running mate coming to UF
Annette Taddeo, the candidate for lieutenant governor running with Democrat Charlie Crist, will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Pugh Hall Ocora Room as part of Hispanic Heritage Month at UF. The month-long, student-run celebration aims to bring Hispanic and Latin American cultures to the forefront. Forum examines medical marijuana issue
The Gainesville Sun and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service will host a forum covering the aspects and varying perspectives of medical marijuana at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in Pugh Hall. Panelists will include Jon Mills, dean emeritus of the Levin College of Law, Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell and Paul Doering, co-director of the statewide Drug Information and Pharmacy Resource Center. The event and parking are free and open to the public.

Career Showcase at O’Connell Sept. 30, Oct. 1
Career Showcase will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the O’ Connell Center. The showcase is designed to help companies find talented students and alumni from a variety of majors. Day one features non-technical majors and day two features technical majors. This event is open to UF students and alumni only.

Student Tech Fair on Oct. 10 at Marston
The George A. Smathers Libraries and UF Information Technology present a Student Tech Fair at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 outside the Marston Science Library to showcase the IT services available for UF students. Barry Lynn to speak on religious liberty
Barry Lynn will discuss the separation of church and state at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 in Pugh Hall. Lynn is the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a nonpartisan, educational organization dedicated to preserving the separation between church and state. He is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.
