Winners of global photo competition announced

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida International Center has announced the winners of its 9th Annual Global Culture Photo Competition.
The 2012 winners are:
Category 1. Study abroad & service learning students (UF-sponsored)
1st. Mothers’ Brilliant Gifts by Anna Marie Brodrecht (Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico)
2nd. Para España by Rachael Silverberg (Picos de Europa, Spain)
3rd. Guan Yin by Geoffrey Harper (Xi’an, Shaanxi, China)
Category 2. International students, scholars and employees
1st. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Chih-Chiang Chang (Siesta Key)
2nd. Sea of Orange and Blue by Joseph John Thalakkottor (Gainesville)
3rd. Rag Ladies by Kan Li (Gainesville)
Category 3- Faculty, staff and alumni
1st. Bac Ha Market Lady by Robert C. Newman (Bac Ha, Vietnam)
2nd. Rejoicing on the Havana Waterfront by William John Grisaitis (Havana, Cuba)
3rd. Juigalpa by Richard Freeman (Juigalpa, Nicaragua)

An opening reception will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday as part of International Education Week 2012. The winning photographers will share the stories behind their photos. An exhibit featuring this year’s winning photographs will be held Nov. 14-Dec. 2 at Grinter Gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
