Clearing a path for climate change

Columbia University law professor Michael Gerrard, who essentially “wrote the book” on climate law in the U.S., will speak Friday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Champions Club at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

His talk entitled “Climate Action in an Era of Congressional Hostility” will address the world community’s struggle to come to a global agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions while both houses of the U.S. Congress are now opposed to taking action on climate change. Gerrard will explore the controversy, the likely outcomes and the impact of the U.S. stance on global negotiations.

The Andrew Sabin Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia Law School, Gerrard has written or edited 11 books including Global Climate Change and U.S. Law, the leading work in its field. He teaches courses on environmental law, climate change law, and energy law and is also associate chair of the faculty at Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

The event, sponsored by Kevin and Jeannette Malone, is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. The Champions Club is located just above the Heisman-winners statues at the stadium.
