ORTHOPAIN -- University of Florida researchers have discovered that a combination of genetic and psychological factors play a role in which patients will have prolonged pain after orthopedic surgery, an outcome that has traditionally been difficult to predict. The findings could help in the development of treatment plans that help patients better deal with that pain.

BURNS -- Forest managers would prefer to use prescribed burns every few years to help prevent costly wildfires and rebuild unhealthy ecosystems, but hurdles like staffing, budget, liability and new development hinder them, a new University of Florida study shows. UF offers forest managers ways to work around those limitations to accomplish their goals.

Elegance of Science Contest winners
The images range from nanoparticles, to a dewdrop, to a woolly mammoth. What they share is the title of “winner” in the University of Florida Elegance of Science Contest. Beautiful way to spend a Saturday
Keep Alachua County Beautiful will be joining the Great American Cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 21 at Westside “Massey” Park. Volunteers can register at kacb.org.


Remembering Selma
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the march on Selma, Gator Law ACLU, along with the Center for the Study of Race and Race Relations, the Black Law Students Association, UF LGBT Affairs and the American Constitution Society are holding a peace rally Saturday, March 21. The march will begin at 11 a.m. at the UF Levin College of Law, 309 Village Dr., and finish at the Plaza of the Americas. The march is open to the public. Jewish Film Festival will feature 12 films in 10 days
