Where big data meets the big bang

The Large Hadron Collider restarts today, and with it the chance for University of Florida physicists to uncover the origins of the universe. Although the LHC is in Switzerland, the computations that make the work possible happen at UF. Using HiPerGator – UF’s research supercomputer – the team that discovered the Higgs Boson get results faster than they could elsewhere, a critical advantage as they gear up for another round of discovery.
In this video, Paul Avery provides a layman-friendly look at how and why the LHC accelerates particles, and how UF’s computing firepower accelerates discovery.
