Award-winning journalist to speak about ending juvenile incarceration

April 10, 2015

Nell Bernstein will speak Monday at the UF Levin College of Law about her newest book, “Burning Down the House: The End of Juvenile Prison.”

“Raze the buildings, free the children, and begin anew,” she writes.

In her book, named one of Publishers Weekly’s “Best Books of 2014,” she supports her case with evidence and firsthand accounts of how incarceration sets juveniles up for a life of crime and hardship.

The discussion and a book signing, which are free and open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. in UF’s Chesterfield Smith Ceremonial Classroom, HOL 180. Copies of Bernstein’s book will be available for purchase.

The event is sponsored by the UF Law Center on Children and Families and the University of Florida Bob Graham Center for Public Service.
