A weeklong beetle reunion on campus!

Plus spider, insect and arthropod get-togethers. It’s all a part of UF Bug Week, May 18-23.

For the third straight year, students, families and bug lovers will have a chance to celebrate all things creepy and crawly.

Bug Week, which is hosted by UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, or UF/IFAS, features tips on how to enjoy a safe, fun summer by learning to live with bugs. In addition to displays and demonstrations, the event will feature bug photos, citizen science projects and a variety of online and campus activities for students of all ages. For those daring enough to partake, there will even be an opportunity to enjoy bug recipes. 

With one of the largest and most highly regarded entomology departments in the country, if anybody knows bugs, it’s the University of Florida. And the state certainly offers plenty of species to explore.

Much of Bug Week is geared toward helping residents avoid unpleasant encounters with species that pose a threat to health or property, and to educate Floridians on how that they can live in harmony with bugs by understanding the difference between those that are beneficial and those that are harmful.
