UFPD advises “Click It or Ticket” this Memorial Day weekend

There’s no denying that safety belts live up to their name. They save lives. Most of the individuals who die on Florida’s roadways are not buckled up. With Memorial Day and summer quickly approaching, law enforcement agencies across Florida, including the University of Florida Police Department, will be cracking down on unbuckled drivers and passengers.

The two-pronged approach of “Click It or Ticket” – enforcement plus awareness – has made it the most successful safety belt campaign to date. But too many Floridians still do not buckle up. And each year that translates into unnecessary fatalities. 

Law enforcement officers throughout Florida will show zero tolerance for motorists who fail to use their safety belts. Not wearing one is a primary traffic violation. So if you’re stopped, you will likely receive a ticket.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is a cooperative effort of the Florida Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and law enforcement agencies across the state.
